Pacific Plumbing Team recently performed a DWV (Drain, Waste & Vent) water test for a new residential construction project in Los Angeles.

A DWV water test is one of the most important inspections performed during the construction process. Before walls are closed, slabs are poured, or finishes are installed, the drainage system must demonstrate that it can hold water without leaking. This helps ensure the plumbing system is safe, reliable, and compliant with building codes.

For this project, our technicians filled the DWV system from the roof vent and carefully monitored the water level. Although no visible leaks were found in the accessible piping, the water level continued to drop during testing, indicating a likely leak beneath the concrete slab. Identifying this issue now allows it to be repaired before construction progresses, preventing significantly more expensive repairs later.

Why DWV Water Testing Is Important

  • Verifies the integrity of drain, waste, and vent piping
  • Detects hidden leaks before walls and concrete are finished
  • Helps meet plumbing code requirements
  • Prevents future water damage and costly repairs
  • Ensures the plumbing system is ready for final inspection

Early leak detection is one of the best investments in any construction project. Addressing problems before finishes are installed saves time, money, and future disruption.
